Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) concept relies on various technologies to fulfill its primary objective of connecting numerous objects through a comprehensive network based on Internet Protocol, with generative artificial intelligence (AI) being one of those technologies. Each technology inherently offers unique opportunities and applications, but it also carries security and privacy risks. In this article, we will first explore how generative AI is fostering innovation within the IoT, followed by an investigation into the security and privacy risks associated with this technology, specifically when generative AI is utilized and how it can be misused within IoT ecosystems. These risks not only endanger the security, privacy, and effectiveness of IoT systems, but also have wider consequences for trust and security in AI-driven environments. The following explores the benefits and anticipated results of a thorough examination of the security risks and advantages posed by generative AI within the Internet of Things, along with strategic methods to address these risks using various approaches. This article aims to offer an equitable and thorough examination of the possible benefits and dangers associated with this technology, while highlighting its practical uses in enhancing the security and privacy of the Internet of Things, and also emphasizes the necessity of acknowledging its drawbacks and challenges.
