Abstract

Blockchain as a practical technology has features such as trust, security, data integrity, transparency and visibility. The application of this technology is not limited to financial fields and has also entered other fields such as defense and military. Each of the features of this technology can solve some of the challenges in the defense industry. In recent years, various studies have been conducted in this field. The absence of a comprehensive secondary study that introduces trends and gaps in this field is evident. Evidence-based software engineering suggests systematic mapping study and systematic literature review for secondary studies in information technology domain. The purpose of this article is to identify the military applications of blockchain technology, which is achieved by conducting a systematic mapping study. During this study, 116 articles were examined and finally 46 articles were identified as research related to this field. Hybrid warfare, autonomous systems, military communications, internet of battlefield things, military logistic, military security, military training simulators and command and control are research topics identified in this field. Most of the conducted researches are related to the field of defense security and Internet of battlefield things, and the least researches are related to military simulators and hybrid warfare.
