Image compression based on the desired error by using singular value decomposition to the blocked image

Abstract

Today, due to the increasing volume of information and the need to transfer and store images on computers and phones, the issue of image compression has become more important. By compressing the image, the bandwidth required to transfer data and the amount of storage space can be reduced. Reducing the required bandwidth allows more data to be transmitted at a single time. There are many methods to compress the image, but it is a suitable method that in addition to increasing the image compression rate, also maintains the image quality as much as possible and does not cause a decrease in image quality. In this paper, the problem of compressing gray and color images based on the desired error using the singular value decomposition method is discussed. The results show that because the image is blocked and then each block of the image is compressed according to the desired error, the quality of the compressed image is very appropriate, and even when the desired error is high, the quality of the compressed image is maintained acceptable.
